I have a Lenovo G505s laptop that was purchased new from Staples on 4/7/2014 with 8.1 pre-installed. About a month ago I began receiving "your windows license key is expiring soon" message. WDT report is attached.

Think I best answer this by PM.

UPDATE: Messaging is turned off and I can't answer on the Forum since I suspect this is a result of using "unauthorized" software

Remove any KMS related software and activate Windows using a genuine key, the activation is illegal.

The error occurs because something changed on the system.

Unfortunately I was unable to access the forum messaging system either and wasn't sure if posting my email address here was a good idea. After reading your post and that of axe0 and Superfly too, I am assuming my Windows 8.1 OS is legit but some software or program that was recently downloaded on my laptop has caused it to be deemed "non-genuine". Is this correct? If so, once I track down and remove this KMS related software will my Windows revert back to being genuine?

A Genuine KMS Server or a Safe emulator downloaded from **Name Withheld** wouldn't change the Windows License/Key from OEM to KMS. My suspicion is it was caused by an unauthorized copy of Office. Removing the KMS program then running an Admin CMD prompt of slmgr /upk will remove the KMS key. After that a restart should return Your status to Genuine using the embedded Key.

Now the problem is Possible Malware in Your PC from the KMS ! All the Bad emulators I've tested that changed the License type were severely compromised by Malware. I'd suggest Full scans with Defender then SuperAntiSpyware Free and Malwarebytes Free. Hopefully those will disinfect the system enough for you to backup any important Date to another drive. If the system is still infected You might have to run something like RKill Download and the others at the bottom of that page before salvaging the Data.

With any Malware that has ADMIN level control I recommend a low-level format on the HDD and a fresh install.
