Hello Im using Windows 8.1 x64 Pro. (on a laptop non touch screen) Is here anyway I can disable & remove the yellow text message on the bottom right of the login screen "Windows update, Important updates are available go to control panel to install them" I have tried 2 .bat files & 1 reg file merge but they did nothing, also disabled screen notifications in GPedit updates are set to disabled in control panel & also services.msc for Win update. What I can't understand is that I have updates set to disabled yet still get this nag message on login screen. Thank you Smokes

I had this issue because Windows failed to update a legacy Microsoft product installed years ago that was no longer in my laptop.

1) Go to Control Panel -> Windows Update -> Change settings
2) Uncheck Microsoft Update
3) Go back to Windows Update and click on Install updates

After completing the installation you can check "Microsoft Update" again if you wish, but the warning message is gone.
