considering re-enabling Windows updates

I stopped installing updates about a year ago after exasperation from having to investigate every update and having to continually re-hide the unwanted updates. Updates I nixed include 2952664, 2976978, 2977759, 3021917, 3035583, 3068708, 3022345, 3075249, 3080149, and about 14 more. This may provide you with enough information to know what I was trying to accomplish.

I know updates are now in big, cumulative packages so we don't get to cherry-pick anymore. Now that a few months have passed since the change, I am wondering whether updates have been studied to determine whether they are purely security and fix updates or they include things that some users do not want installed.

If I re-enable updates, do I still get to choose when to download and install them? Will a reboot occur automatically (like Windows 10) or can I wait until I am ready to reboot?

You can install updates manually as previously. Just they became bigger and more rare. I usually have the update service disabled and enable it whenever I want to make an update. The same goes with jornal service, BITS and some other which are needed for updates but otherwise of no use for me.

I generally avoid updates, but sometimes they are a necesary evil, but i do a manual install but check first on the net on updates to avoid!

BTW windows stopped forced updates on Win 10, they finally got the hint that when they force updates THEY are responsible for the damages and inconveniences caused by it.
Its better to let the user click OK or AGREE after not reading the 10,000 word disclaimer..

If only we can get our phone carriers to understand the same! Maybe our phones wont catch fire from trying to download hundreds of apps updates at once!
