Dear colleagues,
after replacing the original HD with Win 8 64 Single Language OEM (activated), of my Asus netbook, by a SSD with Win 8.1 64 Single Language, I am often prompted to activate it. When I try to use the OEM key to do the activation, windows tell me the key is not proper for the version I´m currently using. I want to upgrade to Win 10.
Will it recognize the OEM key ?
Thanks for your time !

Hi,

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the windows key you have is Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC

This key is used for building standardised Windows Deployment images for WDS as you can install Windows to a machine using these keys and sysprep and capture an image and put your actual OEM key in when you roll during the installation of the Windows images.

You need the key from the sticker on the PC case to move forward.

Yes Lottiemansion, he used the generic key to install - then tried to change the key to the one ending -GFYX3, which was not accepted.
- Windows 8 does not have a key on the case.

@nagual - please run ShowKey, so that we can ascertain the edition of your key.

Please Note:
Click the keys before posting a screen shot or copying the text file
(i.e. it should look like this XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-GFYX3)
We mainly need to see the edition that displays below the key.

Post a screenshot of ShowKeyPlus (clicking on the keys will mask them)

We need to see the edition that displays below the key. The key itself is secondary.

@nagual, you do not have a Single Language licence - You have the the Core version (just plain Windows 8.1)

You can upgrade your current installation using the generic Win 8.1 Core key - once upgraded - enter your OEM key to activate it.
... or you can download Windows 10 Home and it will automatically activate with the OEM key.

You are welcome...

You should be OK (if you are using MCT the better, that GWX process is flaky and causes more problems than it's worth)

Should you have problems with the Windows 10 upgrade, post at Tenforums and we'll sort it out there.
