Device Update Failure (Not Sure If This Is Hardware Related or Update)

I was running Windows XP previously and I was using a D-Link DWL-G650 rev.B wireless card. The card itself worked just fine during the activation process but once Windows boots, it says the device fails to start. I do see in Windows Update that there is an update for this device. I can uninstall and reinstall this device and it works for a minute or so. I have completed a few other updates but when I try to run the update for the wireless card, it says it fails. I tried a few different things but I broke down and bought a new wireless adapter but is there a way to download updates for use on a different computer (i.e. I download the update at work and run it at home)
