how do i immediately stop windows 8 from install rebooting

i am so tired of getting to my computer and it has rebooted because there were some updates it installed and I lost all the work I was working on.

How do I keep this from happening? I want to be notified of updates and have the reboot up to me.

And make this site able to have a longer thread title since it took me a bit to come up with something that fit in the bar.
