What will be the worst thing to happen if i don't upgrade to 8.1....only use PC for email/visiting websites ...nothing more sophisticated that that; have 2 maleware programs + and Internet Security Suite running full time.
Frankly i'm no ''techie'' and the idea of trying the Store's installing 8.1 and possibly not having all necessary 'pre-requiste' updates then trying to find & install on my own is overwheming. Thanks so much

The 8.1 is a "better 8". There are additional security features built into 8.1 that will help surfing the web.

8 is not longer supported, that I know of. Microsoft has shifted to 8.1.

If you disable the antivirus and malware there shouldn't be any issue. Those, could cause problems.

so you're saying that there are 'conflicts' between the download of 8.1 and AV /malware if left 'running during the 8.1 download 'if' AV, etc. is not disabled...i could do that ...makes sense ...those programs are just trying to do their job by blocking potential viruses, etc and the programs 'see/read'' the download of 8.1 as a 'virus' (give/take) ... am i correct ...what about the Firewall ? disable that also ? i'd leave only ''desktop' showing - is that ok ? thanks so much !

Do not disable firewall. MacAfee is very intrusive in Windows and to prevent any conflicts it needs to be disabled. (I don't use McAfee only the free built in Windows Defender antivirus, plus Malwarebytes Pro). If you upgrade you can enable it after the upgrade or just use the free built in Windows Defender AV.
