    Win 8.1 update Quandry

    I'm in a quandary.

I just acquired a Dell Laptop PC, with Windows 8.1, Pro, 64, on it and apparently the Auto Update feature was shut off.

When I turned the Auto Update ON, and checked to see what updates are available, I found that there are 91 updates pending.
I looked through them and they all looked OK to download, but when I started the Update, it wanted to Download Windows 10.
If I stop that update, they all stop.

So far, I've not found a way to tell the OS that I'd like to get the required updates, but, I DO NOT want Windows 10.
    There must be a way.....?

Anyone know how to do this? (get all the updates from MS, without getting the download of Windows 10)

    Thanks for any help,
    TechnoMage

    Hello TechnoMage,

If you like, you can use the tutorial below to disable the upgrade to Windows 10 update.

Thank you Brink, for the prompt response.

But, in the tutorial I cannot find the Group Policy Editor on this PC.

I did download the little Registry Script, and I ran it, and it's registered
in the system registry. (I checked)
But, as soon as Windows update opens, it immediately starts downloading Windows 10.
Even when I select the updates I want to download, that does NOT include Windows 10,
    that POS starts downloading anyway.

If I were a screamer, I'd be screaming bloody murder about now. The only thing I can
think of to do right now, is to turn OFF MS Updates. Maybe that's why it was turned off
when I got this PC. Eh?

    Thanks again,
    TechnoMage

In that case, reset Windows Update using OPTION THREE below.

Windows Update - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums

Afterwards, use OPTION ONE to disable the upgrade to Windows 10 update.

I'm going to say, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you" because I think maybe it worked.
Only time will tell, if I ever see that Windows 10 Upgrade again.
    But, so far, so good.

I'd rather just shut off Windows Updates all together, than have that Windows 10 Download pop up again.
    That's something I definitely DON'T want.
If I ever want it, I already have it on DVD.

    Thanks again,
    TechnoMage
