Windows Update stuck at 0%, have searched everywhere...

My Windows Update always stays at 0% and never downloads the updates. I've left my computer on overnight and it still stays at 0%. I've tried so many possible solutions that I've found on Google, nothing has worked. Just hoping someone here can try to walk me through a possible fix and lead me in the right direction.

I had been trying to follow some suggestions that said to stop Update services and run sfc /scannow on an administrator command prompt. It starts and finishes instantly, saying it was successful, but still says 0% complete.

Please let me know what information you need from me.

    Appreciate any help.

Running Windows 8.1 through DreamSpark on my Sony Vaio.

Hello mcal24, and welcome to Eight Forums.

If you like, you could see if using OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to completely reset Windows Update may help.

In that case, see if you may be able to manually stop the Windows Update service, then run the reset Windows Update .bat file.

Not sure how you would manually stop it, but I used command prompt in admin mode and typed in "net stop wuauserv" and it was unable to stop windows update.

Tried to run the command again right after and it said "the service is starting or stopping, please try again later"

Doesn't look like it lets me. Just says stopping... and doesn't seem like it ever completely stops.

Might be a related issue, but I can't open metro apps at all either.

If you haven't already, let it sit for a while (about an hour at most) to see if Windows Update may continue.
