    The Disappearing update

Novice here - be gentle please

Dell XPS Desktop running Windows 8.0 (wife's pc mainly- I'm at work and don't remember specs).

Tried to d/l 8.1 from store. Received message -need update KB2802618. d/l'd it. Was told it was installed. Went to store. Same issue... same update. Repeated numerous times, same results. d/l'd manually- same results. Updates folder showed one old ms update and one adobe update , nothing else.. not updating....

    Came across this:
Windows update successfully installs KB2802618 repeatedly - Microsoft Community

Tried much of what is mentioned (and the rest was above my head). No luck.. Can't get 8.1 and eventually 10.

    Any suggestions for a novice?

    Thanks

That's the problem... stuck with 8.0. Cannot properly do updates (see link). 8.1 is not an option.
Something's 'broken'. no clue how to fix it.
Win 10- will wait months till bugs are worked out.
Just need a solution to upgrade to 8.1

Under Windows 8, when I minimize a window it disappears completely? Have I somehow changed a setting for the actions of the minimize button? Task manager show the program running but nothing appears in the taskbar. All programs are doing this so it must be a Windows 8 setting? Thanks Chris
