Laptop won't boot into Windows 8.1 after Windows 10 Update

    Hi,

After installing Windows 10 (Build 10162, from 10130 (From Windows Updates)), I cannot boot into Windows 8.1 from the boot selector.

Upon rebooting from a restart/shutdown, the computer hangs on a black screen for about 30 seconds, before flashing the boot selector screen for about 1/2 a second, then booting directly to Win10 without the user's input.

I tried googling the issue, to no avail.

I think that there might be something wrong with the boot selector, but I might be wrong.

The drive containing the Windows 8.1 stuff (D (image attached) is still there, and everything within seems intact.

How do I bring it back to normal, where I could choose which OS to boot into upon starting the computer, prior to the 10162 update?

    Thanks in advance,

    A

Try - right click on start flag - select run - type > msconfig

go to boot tab and you can set default OS and timeout

    Windows 8/10 Dual Boot.

    Hi Kyhi.

Thanks for the help. I've managed to successfully boot back into Windows 8.1.

Problem is, though, the only way to switch OS'es is to use your method, and restart the computer. The Boot Selection menu still doesn't show up.

Any ways to make it show up again, or would I have to get rid of and reinstall Win10 for that?

did you set the timeout setting in both OS's ??

try - boot into your default OS and type msconfig and set the time out

there are other options but need to see your current BCD - you can use Bootice or easyBCD
