I have a Acer 5600U desktop I purchased with win 8, and then upgraded to win 8.1 and all was fine until about one month ago when I got the virus "Runtime Manager, finding discount" and lots of error problems. I finally go back to Win 8 and load win 8 from the OEM on the hard drive, and that worked fine, then tried to update to win 8.1, and when it reboots it always says "Failure configuring windows updates, reverting changes, do no turn off system", and then it will reboot to a Win 8 OS, and all appreas to be OK then loading prpgrams, files and etc. I plan to keep what I have now until upgrading to the new Windows 10. hopefully all will be ok again at that time. Do anyone have any suggestions or comments that may help me ? Thanks so much in advance.

Hi,

Here is a free tip when you download software that does not charge money to people who want to use it watch out for any bundeled applications that come along with the "free software" this is the reason why you got infected by that virus.Do not just go through to the installer read carefully what you are allowing to be installed because that bundeled applications is the author of the free software way of making money not so nice if you ask me.Also removing that virus involves editing the registry did you do that ? (note if you formatted your harddrive then all is gone offcource)

You'll have to upgrade to win8.1 first before you can upgrade to win10.
You can read about it on other threads.

I am still looking for help, and read the message, and wondering what I should do about getting to win 8.1 again without the system saying that it is "reverting " to win 8

My win 8 appears to be OK... and I do wish to get back to win 8.1.
I am very interested in getting some help and several users here have said they can assist, but when I try to reply to them.. it does not work for me.
thanks for continuing to try to assist me. my win8 is working ok, and I do wish to have a valid 8.1 working so that I will be able to upgrade to 8.1. thanks Cliff

If I or we are able to get back to win 8.1, I will be very happy to thank everyone. all be safe. I ran win 8.1 for about one year and no problems with it at all.. Someway I must get my 8.1 back so I will be able to upgrade to win 10.

maybe I should have said before that when reverting from the 8.1 back to win 8, the system gets all the way to 99% before going back to win 8. maybe that tells someone something.... tks

I am ready to go home now, and will read more of this win 8 info when there.
