Win Update component damaged, cannot isolate the issue.

Hey guys, I hope you can help. Normally I'm pretty decent with fixing my own machines, but this one is evading me. Recently (a week or two ago, probably after an update) I keep receiving a pop-up error stating that "Windows update manager has stopped working..." which stays for a few seconds, disappears, then pops up again a minute or two later. It also seems to be slightly dependent on what I'm doing with my laptop at a certain time (i.e. when I'm watching something using VLC, the pop ups seems to be more frequent - might be just coincidental).

Anyway, I have tried multiple things such as Microsoft's Fixit tool, changing the windows update settings and to no avail. I believe the following log from the event viewer is the culprit, and hope someone with a little more knowledge than me can decipher and lend me a hand. I'm trying to avoid a refresh/reinstall at all costs, so if you can help me out, I appreciate it a lot!

Have you tried any diagnostic/repair tools such as?

    Sfc /scannow
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    @ Adm Command Prompt.

Also I would try Manually Starting Maintenance from Action Center.

In addition, any reference to Metadata could indicate another issue

So I just ran SFC /scannow and it returned the following notice:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix someof them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios."

The log I cannot understand, and is 100mb of content. Is there something specific I can search for in the log?

Also, I'm not that familiar with DISM, could you provide a link that explains how to use it to search for issues? However, even from SFC, it does appear that I have corrupted files somewhere.

    From Adm Cmd Prompt

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This could take a while, may appear stuck at 20% for a long time. Upon completion if it indicates that repairs were successful run sfc /scannow again.

Here is a link to a good tutorial regarding the DISM function

In your CBS Log see if you have anything that resembles this.

    amd64_microsoft-windows-u..ed-telemetry-client_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17747_none_90df8130dac08ee0\telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

A particular Windows Update (KB3022345) has been causing these kind of errors an many machines.

I located the following in the CBS Log which appears to resemble the strings you mentioned, and I'm still running the DISM tool (will update with results when it's finished).

Will do, will update in a second.

Edit: Okay, I found that specific update. I assumed you were going to recommend uninstalling it, so I am going to go ahead and do that and restart to see if it has any effect.

Uninstalling the specific update did not eliminate the problem. Do I have to do some sort of clean up afterwards?

    This MAY help.

Just gave it a shot, will see if the error keeps popping up!
