Optional Updates Galore!

    Optional Updates Galore!

On April 21, I had 20 Optional Windows updates, which I hid. Yesterday, there were 4 Optional Windows updates for download, then again today there are 4 Optional Updates for download. Anyone have any ideas about what is going on? Is this preparation for Windows 10? Microsoft trying to fix problems in 8.1? A new method to confuse users?

I try to read each one and be intelligent in my selections, but am not really sure that my interpretation is always in my best interests. One that really interested me today is KB3021910 which has some relation to DISM and source files if I read it right -
"( Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) commands fail with a "0x800f0906" error if a Features on Demand command runs during a download process)".

It's all really confusing to me - God only knows what it's doing to some of my friends who are less technical than I!

Same here with me, i posted in other thread about this. Best what you are doing, read about each item and if have to do more research on them do so. Make restore points on each you may do. I may have took a few, not all as said optional.

    Win 8.1 Update x64

The topic heading is spot on.

It's raining Optional updates for me...batches of it coming in every week at least for me. Last batch corrupted my system files.
Had to restore health using DISM, again checked - SFC said still corrupted, again did DISM restore health. Then again SFC, now it's okay.

I regularly check for corrupted files using SFC, this is the first time facing one after doing Windows Updates.

Same here - I uninstalled them and everything in DISM and SFC was working again. This was on 2 home pc's here. Now I'm just hiding those particular updates.

There was an optional update about DISM to correct something in it, maybe that was the one, can not recall which yet.

Is it confirmed that there are actually optional updates that corrupts the system files? Which ones are they in particular?

Sorry but I don't remember - if you installed them and all is ok, just go with it. In my case, DISM and SFC /Scannow wouldn't correct system files after I installed 4 updates, so I just restored system back to a point before the last installation of Windows Updates in that case.

I haven't installed them yet and wanted to check if it causes issues before doing so. I've had major problems doing a system restore.

Does anyone else notice DISM or SFC /scannow not working properly after installing those updates?

Unable to Hide Optional Updates in Windows Updates & Activation
