Are you sure its not KB3035583?

I don't have any history of 3035558 at all. Furthermore, google search for it only has one result, this thread :)

I tend to take all Windows updates for Windows 8.1. Assume no harm, plus make restore point beforehand

I believe this is the update that allows WU to offer Win 10 when the time comes. My Win 8.1 has it since April,1 but I have yet to see it offered in either of my Win 7 SP1's.

Edit:
Well so much for the stupid Windows Search in Win 7...not nearly as functional as in Vista or even XP for that matter.
After delving through all my updates, I found that yes indeed, my Win 7 SP1's both received it on March 28. Around the same time as the GWX folder was created in Windows\System 32, which looks to be an intro to Win 10 folder as I see the Win 10 logo on at least 2 of them.
Mind you some dates are fixed in stone because I just upgraded my main system from Vista SP2 to 7 SP1 and Windows isn't so hot on dates for folder creation, changes etc. etc.
Whomever at MS thought of blank windows as a good emblem for a system, really needs a lesson on aesthetics.

I have KB3035583 already installed. Does this mean that version "10" will automatically be installed when ready? I don't think I want a new program installed without knowing what it offers. This update also included other fixes, so I'm between a "rock and hard place" to know what to do. Hopefully, it won't install "10" automatically. Anyone know for sure if it will or not automatically install "10".

Thank you.

No, it means it will be offered to you that's all. Nothing is forcing you to upgrade. Those updates are merely to give Windows Update the ability to offer a system upgrade. That's something that normally it wouldn't be capable of doing. When the time comes there will no doubt be an upgrade readiness tool for people to use to ensure their systems will upgrade smoothly (or not).

No Windows 10 will not be forced on you.

What will probably happen is you'll get information as is nears RTM. Some bloggers are erroneously calling it a nag screen, but that's not quite right. You will probably be offered an update to install it if you wish, but can always "Hide" it in windows update.

For more information on Windows 10 though you could visit Ten Forums.

I've been using the tech preview since October an can say it has many improvements over 8.1, some I like , and some I don't really care for(I really love 8.1) but I'll upgrade anyhow, as with all OS's it just takes a month or two to get used to, and after a while it'll feel like you always used it.

Thank you, Peter. What a relief that is. BTW, I like Your "Older - But No Wiser" comment. It definitely applies to me. I just turned "much older" on 4/17....but not divulging my age. Let's just say I'm very old.

Thank you, Cliff. I will check out "Ten Forums". Per your comment "....as with all OS's it just takes a month or two to get used to..." ------- maybe for you, but I'm still trying to get use to 8.1 (I miss XP!!!)!:roflmao:
