KB2267602 fails to install

  1. #11

I'm the op. My situation is identical to yours. I too have used Avast since day one and this is a new event.

I found a solution that works. I disabled Defender permanently. Here's the website that explains how to do it.

Windows 8: How to disable and completely uninstall the Windows 8 Defender -

You have to have administrator rights for some of these steps. Autostarts used as administrator worked for me.

    Updates for Defender disappeared.

Thanks for your reply, I can see where you are coming from with this.
However the thing I can't work out is how to change some of those setting in services.
I have never really understood all this administrator stuff, but I thought i was administrator of my local account.
So in the meantime, I think I'll just ignore the update because I am fairly certain it is peculiar to the current version of Avast.
I updated two identical PC's on the one day and both immediately threw up the Defender update.
I'll check on the Avast forum whether anyone else has noticed this.

Most of the people who own a computer are administrator, but sometimes you just have to confirm it.
As administrator you have more access to files than those who aren't, the easy way of explanasion.
