Microsoft appears to have changed the Nov 2014 roll-up from optional to important. As a result, it slipped by me and it installed on restart. The system performance was abysmal afterwards with a black screen after the Toshiba logo for a good 30 seconds before getting to the login screen. Login would take forever to get a desktop with icons. Mouse would not move for some time and the system would take about 20 seconds or more to bring up task manager via Ctl-Alt-Del after which I'd see 100% Disk usage for approximately a minute with the system and svchost processes the biggest culprits in IO reads. This is a Toshiba Satellite P55t-A5118 with 1TB drive and 8gigs, Intel video.
I uninstalled the update and the system is now very unstable. SFC in Safe mode generates many errors in the log files and notes corrupted files at the end of the run. Tried to restore to a March 3rd restore point which failed after which the restore point disappeared from the restore folder. Restored to March 10th with no difference in performance. Disabled Toshiba, Norton (that was uninstalled so I'm not sure why those two tasks were still there) and Skydrive tasks. Disabled Brother printer software, Toshiba app place, Toshiba update, Superfetch, Windows Search, and BITS. Still runs miserable.
Touch pad sometimes works sometimes doesn't (Event ID 264 A multi-touch device reported inconsistent contact information).
Wireless error message with Toshiba diagnostics.
Kernel processor speed limited by firmware for all 4 (Event ID 37). WLAN extensibility module stopping. The embedded controller (EC) returned data when none was requested.
The BIOS might be trying to access the EC without synchronizing with the operating system. This data will be ignored. No further action is necessary; however, you should check with your computer manufacturer for an upgraded BIOS.
Haven't tried the refresh option yet but have backed up all of my files in case I have to do a re-load. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
John
