    Optional KB3000850 Showing As Important?

Heyo, need to ask a question.

A while back in November, Microsoft released the KB3000850, which was a November roll up update. However some people didn't install it due to issues. I didn't install it back then and now, in March its showing as Important. Given how its like 400+MB, I need to know...

Has anyone here had any issues with it, and is it now finally save to install it? This is for Windows 8.1 32-bit btw.

Using Defender I have never had any issues. The issues are mostly coming from 3rd party AVs, But I'm pretty sure the AV companies have fixed the problems by now. Still I recommend making a system image before installing. Even though I have never had an issue with patch Tuesday updates, as with any major system changes, I always make an image before hand, be it security updates, driver updates or program updates.

Fair enough. I'm hoping that Kaspersky Pure 3.0 doesn't have any issues. I mean they recently had a large patch recently that updated the version number but I'm still a little worried. Especially since Microsoft has dropped the ball a few times on some patches. (Seriously why is this one 400MB+? I'm a damned Australian Microsoft, can't you compress this better?)

    Why it's so big:
    New features and improvements
This update rollup includes the following new features and improvements:
    • Refreshed language packs
    • Defense-in-depth security and Schannel hardening
    • Support for newer hardware (boot order allowance, SD card improvements, USB debugging)
    • Improved Web Services for Devices (WSD) printer support during network switches
    • Performance and reliability improvements in clustered virtual machine mission-critical environments
    • Improved manageability
    • Additional hardware support (devices that have third-party disk encryption software enabled can now be upgraded to Windows 8.1 more easily)

This November update rollup also includes all previous updates since the previous image update in April 2014. This is a convenient single step to bring Windows clients and servers up to date. Unlike our April update, the November update rollup is not required to be able to continue to receive security or other updates. However, we strongly recommend that you deploy it to Windows clients and servers to benefit from these new features and improvements as well as to prevent many known issues that have been resolved since April. This update is thoroughly tested to the same quality level as our previous service packs. However, unlike service packs, this update does not change the version number and does not deprecate or change any APIs in a manner that would require recertification.
Just make an image before hand using Macrium Reflect or whichever imaging program you have/prefer.

Oh and one more thing I just thought about, Maybe turn Kapersky temporarialy off when you install the updates, that should reduce the chance that your AV gets in the way and no issues occure, then just reactivate after the reboot and the installation is finished.

Would NOT installing this update prevent me from getting future updates? Because this KB happens to totally destroy any audio quality I have.

Have you just blocked this one and tried updating. Microsoft claims it's not needed an it's surely been superseded since.

WOA! I have a lenovo running 8.1 with Kapersky Pure 3.0. This update appeared on 5th March and it was selected and installed, asking for a restart after configuraing windows up to 8% it restarts and says it could not complete the update and will undo changes. This has happened 11 times since March 11th. I have restored back to 5th March checkpoint pre-update - no difference.

My wife has an HP with 8.1 and Avast. this morning KB3000850 just failed on her machine in exactly the same way.

Quite happy to ignore this update, but cannot find out how to do that without turning windows update automatic off...........

***Update*** I have found that by right clicking the update in Windows Update you can hide it - so this is my circumvention!

    Help, please?
