Solved I can not activate Windows

Hi guys,

I would greatly appreciate any help with activation. Here are the facts:

I have been running Windows 8 PRO OEM version on my laptop for over a year without any issues. For several months I have been prompted by the OS to "Install Windows 8.1 upgrade" but I have always been clicking "later" as I really did not want to mess with my production system. Eventually the upgrade was installed automatically and now I can not activate Windows... I get the following using Superfly's diagnostic script:

I have spend the whole day trying to troubleshoot this to no avail. Under health check data it says "tampered" even though all updates have come from normal Windows Update.

What could be wrong?

The "unknown" errror 0x800700d8 refers to Windows not being able to process system files.

This could be due to outdated Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers.

Alternatively, a corrupted update.. check by running sfc and dism .. David has a handy script here:

Let me know the results of that... if that passes we can try rebuilding the licencing store otherwise a refresh may have to be done with a clean ISO download.

Hi Superfly,

Thanks a lot - indeed it was a corrupted update that seems to have caused all this. sppsvc.exe service was corrupted. I run sfc / dism /sfc and even though it said it could not repair all files, it did fix the above service. Now windows seems activated.

Once again thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
