    Can't update other Microsoft products

Windows 8 itself is updating fine using Windows Update. However, it doesn't provide updates for Office and other MS products. Where it says in the WU dialog box "You receive updates for:" it indicates "Windows Only." Going into Windows Update settings does not offer the "Microsoft Update" option that is available in windows 7. The link to "find out more" about updating other MS products takes me to this very unhelpful page: http://winbeta.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx?ln=en-US

I know from seeing others' screen shots in this forum that updating for other Microsoft products is not disabled in Windows 8. How do I update Office (I know there are new sucurity updates for Office that were released today and I'd like to have them!)?

    Welcome

In Windows 8, currently at least, you need to add the option to update other Microsoft products with Windows update:

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Select Windows Update
    3. Select 'Get updates for other Microsoft Products: Find out more'
    4. When the web page opens select Install

It will now scan for additional updates and make them available. it will also add the option to Windows update settings.

Because of the behavior of Windows Update linking to a page other than the one with the check box as in your first screenshot above.

    I'm not saying for a fact as I don't know - it's a guess, so that's why I put ?

Ok, I just thought I'd missed something. Here's some additional screenshots. You can see in the earlier image, there were 4 updates available for windows only, after installing the additional product update, it finds updates for Office:

Ya true, that's what I'm saying though. It might not be linking to the webpage to set it to check for other products because it doesn't recognize any legit other products on the machine.

Maybe. Out of interest, do you see something different? I only have an MSDN version of office 2010. However, I can download the 60 day trial and see if that differs...

Downloading 60 day trial wouldn't make a difference, because that would be legit and cause the mechanism to update properly. It probably only happens when a crack is applied to make Office functional forever - if that is even the reason why to begin with.

As for your question, my machine works and updates well as expected but I have seen ones that don't.

I've remembered now. The option to update Office doesn't exist until you either run the option I listed above or you run an Office application for the first time. When you do this, you're presented with a choice of how to update, when a selection is made the option is made available in Windows Update settings.
