Windows 8 and 8.1 Forums

    Evening all!

Long story short, I had to do a full reset on my laptop (not a refresh) and am anticipating lots of Windows updates when it finishes.

I was hoping to get some guidance on what my best attack strategy, not only for times sake but also in avoiding unnecessary/failed updates from Windows.

Any other tips or *dont forget abouts* are greatly appreciated

    Thank you!

I think a lot depends on how far back you are talking about after the reset.

You show nothing in System Specs, and the only thing I see indicates you were running Windows 8 before the reset.

What OS were you running, Windows 8 or 8.1? If you were on 8 you might have problems but if you were running 8.1 it would be good to know if the reset took you back to before the big 8.1 Update 1.

    Need more info.

Have you checked for updates yet. I assume it was not set to automatically download and update automatically. It will not put you in a bad situation if you just check for updates, it would be interesting to see what comes up and if it will want to take you to 8.1. Check for updates and post a screenshot.

I recently purchased a new laptop and there were close to 100 updates. It took 3 runs and quite a bit of time to get them all in.

To upgrade via the store from 8 to 8.1 you need as a minimum KB2871389 and KB291749 for 8.1 to show up. You can probably ignore the rest. Windows 8.1 - Update to from Windows 8

Alternatively you could download the ISO and upgrade using that (the method is described in in option 2 in the link above). This may well be quicker.
