Hi - writing for friend - she has Win 8 = was able to download bank statements, etc. PDF, etc. but suddenly can no longer - something showing about 'security' won't allow .all programs/settings were originally set by tech who came to house & set up her computer & she changed nothing - (wouldn't know how) .. ....any possibility that a recent Win Update could cause something like that ...thanks in advance

Yes, but it may be the security settings in her browser. Which one does she use?

thanks so much - she did a 'restore' to a few days back (maybe longer- i was surprised to know she could do that ! LOL) and all seems o.k ..(so far) and yes, she did remember to do updates from that restore-point and maleware updates to 'current' ...waiting to hear how things are going ... She's using Google as her browser - not I.E. but she said she had changed no 'settings' in any program prior to the incident ...thanks again

ok= since i posted above, just found out she has ''security essentials' that is a microsoft product ...she said she has Win 8 but i saw S.E. is with 8.1 - is it possible that 8. also uses Security essentials or (a) she got 8.1 originally 'or' (b)that somehow with her recent updates (set to auto-download/install )she was 'upgraded' to 8.1 and isn't aware of it ? thanks again !

8.1 has a Defender that is basically like MSE, so it's possible, I personally use Avast. She could have upgraded from Windows 8.
