Endless blue spinning animation (unresponsive Win Updates)

Hi guys. Just bought a brand new Dell XPS 8700 a few days ago. Windows Update was fine until I tried updating a large number of updates a few minutes ago. After my computer restarted, I notice the blue spinning just spinning endlessly as if the "Windows Update" option was no longer responsive.

Tried running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool from Microsoft, and every time I run it, it says it finds 3 errors

Service registration is missing or corrupt

Windows Update error 0x80070490(2015-01-02-T-07_41-19P)

Problems installing recent updates

and "has fixed the problem." But the problem hasn't been fix because when I go back into Windows Update, it still stalls and shows the blue busy spinning animation. I'm guessing the recent updates had to do something with it.

Any suggestions? :(

My suggestion would be to do the following:

Then please run the following DISM commands to see if there's any problems with the system (from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt). Press Enter after each one:
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Code:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
FYI - I have repaired systems using the last command even though problems weren't found with the first 2 - so I suggest running them all.

From this article: Repair a Windows Image

You can also run sfc.exe /scannow from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt to check for further corruption.

Just curious -- what is the return timeframe for your PC, and are there any restrictions on that?

Asking, because if this happened to a PC I bought a few days ago, I'd be looking into getting a "free" replacement -- or, if that isn't possible, at least getting a refund of what I paid and using that to buy something else.

You shouldn't have to be jumping through hoops to repair a PC that you've had only a few days! (IMHO)

Similar people have had the exact same issue

That includes me -- I had the same kind of issues. But, I "solved" mine by doing a clean reinstall -- from scratch, using a Win8.1 ISO that I downloaded from Microsoft. Then, when I reapplied the updates, they took without issue.

But, I've had this machine for several years, and since I assembled it myself, there is no one to return it to.

If it were a new machine that I had bought only a few days ago, I'd be returning it.

Did you have the exact same issue two days ago, meaning exact same updates happened?

EDIT: I was able to find a temporary workaround (courtesy of MS forums), via setting Windows Update to automatically download and install updates in Control Panel. After doing that, the screen prompted to restart the computer and install. Now the Updates windows seems to be functional.
