For the past couple of days, i've tried to download and install Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.191.1232.0) without success. Ive already tried to use the windows update troubleshooter, manually resetting Windows Update Components, and using dism & sfc (both report no problems found). I'm not really too sure what to try after that, and I would like to fix this without having to reinstall Windows 8, if its possible.

I'm not sure what exactly causes that issue - but being a Defender update, perhaps wait a day or so and update with the revised version.

What I do know though, having looked at the scripts contained in the FixIt troubleshooter (WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab), is that only these versions are supported.

#Windows 7 6.1
#Windows Server 2008 R2 6.1
#Windows Server 2008 6.0
#Windows Vista 6.0
#Windows Server 2003 R2 5.2
#Windows Server 2003 5.2
#Windows XP 5.1
#Windows 2000 5.0
[DEL]
Thus running this on windows 8 is of no use.(albeit MS support says otherwise)[/DEL]

EDIT: delving deeper there is in fact windows 8 support - can't find anything relating to 8.1* (i.e 6.3) though.

Code:
elseif(([int]::Parse($OS.version[0]) -eq 6) -and ([int]::Parse($OS.version[2]) -eq 2)){

            return 62 # windows 8

* EDIT2: Found something that will handle 8.1:

Code:
if($CurrentVersion -ge 6.2)
{
    $Ispostback = ($true -eq (ispostbackOnWin8 "BITSDiagnsotics"))
}

Lots of scripts to go through - will get there eventually...:eek:

PS: Sorry for hijacking the thread.

@Superfly Thats fine.
@werty [DEL]I'll try that then and post the results of it.[/DEL] No dice, still failed during install with same error after doing option 3.

Edit: I'm actually thinking about downgrading (meaning my mind is pretty set on doing so) to Windows 7; this problem was the final straw for me. Thanks for the help anyways.
