Update Hangs..

Hey guys, I have had this problem for about two weeks after doing a clean install of Windows 8.1, I've never had this problem before however whenever I try to check for updates it just hangs on 'Checking for Updates...' the longest I've kept it on was for about 2-3 hours and still the same thing, my last successful update was 14/12/2014 (UK Date)
however it says I've never had updates.

I've tried to restart the service then restart my computer but that didn't do anything,
help is appreciated.

Windows update error usually prompts due to the incorrect registry setting, bad DLL drivers, incomplete installation of windows,etc. i have also encountered with problem like this. i went through internet to find the proper solution for this problem and i found an amazing solution on a site. I applied the solution given in that site to fix windows update error in my system. Now i am free from any windows update error.

Read this thread where I tried to help someone else(includes a batch file to re register the dll's). In her case it was the router but maybe some of the other tips might help you too. On another thread it was VPN settings.
