    Hi Fredfred5fred,

Thank you for posting your question. I’m glad to help you in regards to your Windows 8,1 crashes. I’ll appreciate if you could provide more details about your computer specifications.

First of all I would like you to check whether the problem is associated with the computer memory. It is commonly seen that faulty memory causes your computer to restart automatically.

    1. Press Windows Key + X.
    2. Select Search.
    3. Type “memory” in the Search Box.
    4. Click the Settings icon.
    5. Click “Diagnose your computer’s memory problems” in to the Search Results page.
    6. The Windows Memory Diagnostic tool will open.
    7. Click the “Restart now and check for problems” button. The computer will restart automatically and conduct several memory tests to resolve any issues found.

Secondly, use the ZombieSoftFix in order to check for conflicts with shell-extensions, ActiveX, DLL registration issues. After successfully completing the process, please restart your computer. If your problem still persists, you may have to increase the Paging File Size. Inadequate Paging File Size may also be the reasons.

    1. Right click the Computer icon on your desktop.
    2. Select Properties from the context menu.
    3. Click “Advanced system settings” link.
    4. System Properties dialog will be displayed.
    5. Click Settings (Performance) -> Advanced.
    6. Click Change (Virtual Memory).
    7. Uncheck the box named “Automatically manage the paging file size for all drives”.
    8. Select the system drive, usually drive C:\
    9. Select “Custom size” option.
    10. Increase the current paging file size, and then click Set button.
    11. Click OK | OK | OK.
    12. Restart your computer for the changes to take effects.

I hope you find my answer very helpful!

    Thanks & Regards,

I bet others have this too. Windows 8 continues to ask me over and over each update session to update to Bing Desktop. I don't want it, never will. Seems in XP you tell a specific update to leave you alone if you never wanted to see it. Have we lost that in Windows 8? Thanks! Jack ":-D
