I have a fresh install of windows 8 on a new SSD Drive with nothing installed but the windows updates, all 99 of them!!

When i try to upgrade to Windows 8.1 it down loads and starts installing but always sticks at 82%. I have reformatted and ran updates but the same issue occurs when installing the 8.1 upgrade.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated

Many thanks in anticipation

I think my upgrade was stuck at the same point too. My problem was a wrong driver was installed (wi-fi adapter), I uninstalled it (I may have disabled the adapter in the device manager too just to be sure) and it went like a charm. At this step in the installation process I think it's likely to be a hardware that isn't recognized correctly/incompatible or a driver problem.

Here's what I'd recommend :
* Update windows 8 with the all latest patches available in Windows Update.
* Disconnect any external hardware that's not needed like external HDD, printer, scanner, etc...
* Uninstall any 3rd party anti-virus. Anything else that can mess up the system, you should uninstall.
* Check control panel > device manager. If any device has a yellow question mark, it means there's a problem.
* If the upgrade still doesn't work, I'd try uninstalling any non-intel/microsoft drivers
