Hi,
I've never been able to install any Windows 8 Updates on my 64bit Samsung Laptop.
Error message:
Error(s) found: Code 73712 Windows Update ran into a problem
- My computer is set to Install Updates automatically
- No records in View Update History
- Ran Windows Update Trouble Shooting a number of times: and it shows
  • Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x80073712 Fixed
  • Window Update Components must be repaired Fixed
But I'm still unable to download any updates.

Tried the following with no success, and get the same error message when running Windows Updates:
-Tried going into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" and deleted everything in DataStore folder except for log folder.
-Renaming SoftwareDistribution to SoftwareDistribution.bak
-Disabling my antivirus, then running the Window Update
-Running Windows Update in Safe Mode
-Running Windows Update in CleanBoot
-Running Tools >> Error Checking

Tried running the following DISM command in cmd as administrator:-
It states that The Component Store has been corrupted.

When I ran: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Got Error: 14098 The component store has been corrupted.

Would greatly appreciate if anyone can help me. Thanks.

And di you read through the thread (and links in that thread) I posted earlier?

Yes, read the thread.
Ran: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Result: Error 14098.. components store has been corrupted

Ran: sfc /scannow -
Got: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
Checked the Windows Module Installer service - and it's set correctly.

Trying to find my Windows 8 key so I can make an iso so I can run SFC /SCANNOW Command at Boot

Getting frustrated at the time I've put in trying to resolve an update issue :( Oh well.

Thanks for the links.

There is no point running sfc if you can't run dism.

14098 error means that your WINRE.wim can't be found or has a problem. The default place is C:\Windows\System32\Recovery\WINRE.wim

You need to both show hidden files and un-hide protected operating system files in folder options. Can you see it? When was it modified?

Majulook, yes Window 8 is original OS
Adamf, 26/7/12 last modified. Yes, just realised you're right with no point running sfc if DISM has errors.

Perhaps it would be easier for you to do a factory restore of your system seeing that you have many problems, resetting the computer to the same state as when you got it. Backup your data before doing anything.

Anomaly, unfortunately it didn't work.
I'm tempted to do a factory restore.

have you contacted the Samsung about the issue?
Since you never had any updates it must be a new system, or have you just neglected the problem for a long time?

Unfortunately, I've neglected to run Windows Update since the beginning. Thought it was on automatic update. Lesson Learnt!
Thank you all for your help.
