activation error 0xC004F012 after Win 8.1 update

Hello, I got an Asus laptop with preinstalled Win 8.0. I updated it to 8.1 (after factory reset with first failed attempt) and about a day after I got a notification screen about Win not being activated and an error 0xC004F012 after trying to reactivate.

Possible problems:
ActiveProductKeyChannel is Volume:GVLK. I think it should be OEM in retail pc. Could this have been changed when I messed with Office 2010 activators.

Software Protection Service keeps stopping after a few minutes even after I successfully start it manually (net start sppsvc). It's correctly set to Automatic (delayed) although changing the startup type in services.msc is locked.

What I've tried before:
slui.exe 4 - can't be activated by phone
slmgr.vbs -ipk product-key - no error
slmgr.vbs /ato activation-id - error 0xC004E015
sfc /scannow - no errors
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth - no errors

It's friend's laptop and he's leaving abroad in two days so I would greatly appreciate any help.

You have the wrong key installed... Try http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/27129-product-key-find-windows-8-a.html option 5 and activate with that

Thanks, tried that but Installed key and OEM were the same. I restored to a state before I messed with Office activator and the ActiveProductKeyChannel is OEM:DM as it should be but still no luck. SPPSVC is still stopping.

First of all make sure you have got rid of all traces of that activator rubbish.

The key installed cannot be the same as the OEM key - you have a GVLK key installed

Try again:
slmgr.vbs /ipk xxxx-xxxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxx (= OEM key from ShowKey)
slmgr.vbs /ato (without using activation id)

Run Win8Diag again (- make sure it runs without error by re-running it.)

BTW It's normal for software protection to start and stop - in contrast to Windows 7 where it remained started, in Windows 8 it periodically starts and checks acitivation then stops - don't worry with that...

Tried that. Keys are still the same. I wanted to do a factory reset but it seems Win 8.1 can´t find the Win 8 recovery partition although it is there and set correctly:

Code:
DISKPART> list partition
  Partition ### Type Size Offset
  ------------- ---------------- ------- -------
  Partition 1 System 100 MB 1024 KB

Can't make out your reports (?) ....but anyway a reset is probably in order.

Not sure what the issue is with recovery. If you need an 8.1 download key PM me.
