    Prerequisites

To apply this update, you must be running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Preview on a touch-enabled computer that has the en-US language pack installed as an input language.

I don't qualify for first condition. I was hoping there were same added words and not to bather me with difference with spelling of some words in Canadian and US language. Like colour and color etc.
I have 8.1 pro like you with no touch screen.
Maybe my computer is touch-enabled in case I ever got a touch screen. ?
    I don't know.

I'm installing an English{United Kingdom} language pack to see if the spell checker quits putting a red line under, "colour".

There's also "Check" and "Cheque" (like in banking one).

Try also things like "Licence and License" (UK / US) and just to confuse poor non English native speakers - Licensing when say you want to describe a "Licensing Authority" !!.

Still what Language is ever logical -- perhaps "Text-ese" did have something going for it after all !!!!.

    Cheers

I don't mind color. Gray (for the colour) however just looks wrong - Grey is better.

You could also check (ensure) that a cheque (a banking instrument promising payment that is rarely used in the modern world) was valid.

Don't start me on jail vs gaol though - in this case the US spelling is far more intuitive..

Huh, English English. US, Canada, Aus etc. In school in Yugoslavia we learned British (so to speak) English than I used to frequent US Cultural Center in Belgrade to borrow Jhonny Cash records and some literature and was getting confused with Bonnet and Hood, Truck and Lorry, Trunk and Boot etc. Than I moved to Canada and had even more surprises there, mainly some french spelling of words that sound same. Those automatic dictionaries should take all those differences into account, auto-correct can make even worse havoc with that.
Than I had some Irish friends that introduced me to completely new vocabulary (and drinks) to say nothing about spelling. Than, there are Newfies (Canadians from Newfoundland) that can confuse even serious linguists. Jamaicans, I can understand whatever they write but listening to them reading same sentence I couldn't understand a word. Every language can have many spelling and pronunciations and windows are not taking that into account, not even close.
Lastly, there are some words that MS uses in windows and are not in their dictionary, like Taskbar (suggested Tanbark), malware (suggested Waldemar ???), those things should be in their dictionary one would think, eh ?

No it's not but neither is Alabama ("we will rest here" in American Indian language), Man in Black had very pronounced Western drawl definitely not British.
Similar stuff happens with French language, Quebeckers speak french but you would probably be hard pressed to understand them, specially those Canadian lumberjacks, they have their own brand of French. I spent a year in Paris before going to Canada and learned some French and when I was working in Quebec everybody new where I learned it.

Well actually he was born in Kingsland Arkansas in February 1932. I thank you for reminding me - I've been listening to him for half an hour now.

Personally I find Canadians easier to understand than Bretons. I also pretend not to understand Parisians (I have a horrible southern accent in French) but that is just me being slightly childish.
