Hello,

I have my updates set to automatically download but not install. I see I now have KB2993651 downloaded and ready to install. Reading on the internet, it looks like this was supposed to replace KB2982791, which came on Patch Tuesday of this month and caused problems on some Windows 7 computers. I never did have KB2982791 and I figured that was not offered to Windows 8 computers.

Now I'm seeing people are having problems with KB2993651. Has anyone here installed this? If so, any problems? I'm holding off for now, just wondering if any Windows 8 people were having issues with this update.

If it is "no big deal" to leave it then why does Microsoft strongly recommend manually uninstalling it prior to applying KB2993651.

Microsoft ships replacement patch KB 2993651 with two known bugs | Microsoft windows - InfoWorld

99.99 percent success is pretty good in most jobs in this world, but I have installed KB2982791 and I haven't uninstalled it because I didn't know it was strongly recommended to do so, and I have installed KB2993651. To me, personally, putting words like "strongly recommended" in an obscure corner of a document that 99.99 percent of normal people don't ever read is still 100 percent vague.

Where have MS said they strongly recommend uninstalling the previous updates

I have seen website with it mentioned but nothing official from MS

Thing is, I never did have KB2982791 in the first place. I have the updater, which installed on August 7, and then on the 16th a list of updates, and KB2982791 is not on that list. We were traveling during 'patch Tuesday' and didn't get home until August 7th. I have my updates set to download but not install automatically, although the updater must have installed itself on the 7th. I installed the rest of the updates on the list on August 16th. I assume they downloaded sometime between the 7th and the 16th, without KB2982791. When I read about problems people were having with it, I figured it was a Windows 7 issue and that, having Windows 8, that update wasn't offered to us.

And now I have this, KB2993651, which is supposed to replace an update I never had in the first place?

BTW, I haven't installed it yet, I'm still scouting around online to see if there are still problems with it.

Thanks for your input, folks.
