New Windows Update KB2973544

I got this today, it was released yesterday KB2973544. Inside of Windows update it claims to "resolve a issue in windows..." So I go to the KB Article and it says "If you have Automatic Updates enabled on a computer that is running Windows RT or Windows 8 and that has update 2871389 installed, this update can automatically start the update process to Windows RT 8.1 or Windows 8.1"

Does this actually force the update to 8.1 or does it let you modify the update now message that update 2871389 creates?

Anybody know what it actually does?

It replaces this update that would give you a notification to update to 8.1.

Looks like this new update will auto start the update to 8.1 instead of just notifying you.

Yes, I read the KB article thought it was missing something since a IMHO lot of people are not ready yet to go to 8.1 and have applications not working. Then I thought MS is silly but not that silly to force a OS upgrade to people with out ability to say no to the upgrade. so thought I would ask if anyone new for sure what it did.

Further research shows that this update is NOT being rolled out to all, currently only a select number (how many is not known) of Windows 8 Operating systems will get this, eventually all will get it. Supposedly the update is fully automated with no input from end user.

Probably more problems as more people are forced to update with out realizing it, and the update fails, keys required or applications fail to work.

Just look at the problems people post on this forum, when they actually want to upgrade.

The store upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 is not the ideal way to coerce those to upgrade ( as evidenced by the upgrade issues already experienced and restore partition problems).

M$ would be well advised to allow those with with Windows 8 keys to download the latest 8.1 ISO (including OEM -. It's not at all difficult for the Setupbox program to grab the firmware key - check version and architecture - prior to download) .. and allow the upgrade from the media created.
