Can't cleanup backup update files.

    Can't cleanup backup update files.

They do not show in Disk cleanup at all and there must be several GB of them. Since everything is working good, without any problems related to updates I figured I should delete some parasitic files from the system. If nothing at least system/disk backup file will be smaller.

Disk Cleanup does not work with downloaded updates. You need to manually delete everything under:
    C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

NOTE: Do not delete while Windows Updates is running.

Looked at it, there's almost nothing there ( few KB only). In Windows Update > Installed updates all of them are still possible to uninstall so files must still be somewhere.

    You could try ...

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /Resetbase

If you wish, you can try this shortcut then it will list additional options:
    The shortcut contains: %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:35 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:35

    NOTE:
Do not delete Windows ESD installation files or you will not be able to: Refresh/Reset

Not to sound condescending, but did you choose:
    - 'clean up system files'
    - 'delete shadow copies'

are there any scheduled tasks under Disk Cleanup in Task Scheduler

Yes, I did and there's not much in there anyway. Those I clean up fairly regularly. Task Scheduler > StartComponentCleanup doesn't do anything, just said "completed successfully (0x0) " and not a byte less on the disk.

I got Glary Utilities Pro for Xmas.{$11} I saw Windows Update as something to be cleaned. I ran the cleanup of everything & it only took a few sceonds. I emailed Glary & asked if their Windows Update cleanup was the same thing as in Disk Cleanup in Windows. They said yes. They said it...
Well, as the title suggests, I'm having an issue with Disk Cleanup with a new SSD I recently purchased. In all my years with HDDs I never had this problem. I've been running Windows 8.1 with an HDD for over a year now with no such problem so this is quite new & odd to me. The Windows Update Cleanup...
Disk Cleanup Not Deleting Files in Performance & Maintenance
I recently ran a Disk Cleanup as part of my regular maintenance on my new computer. It had over 2.18GB of files to cleanup. That seemed a little high considering I run it every week to 2 weeks. It said it deleted all the files. I ran the Scan Disk again to be sure and it still had 2.18GB of files....
Is there a way to backup update files of Win 8? in Windows Updates & Activation
I format my PC like a every 6 months. The most annoying part is the updates of Windows 8 which is like more than a gigabyte. I want to backup the updates and reinstall them without downloading them again. Is it possible?
I have windows 8.1 and get it updated once a week. So all updates cumulate to above 1 gb(roughly) along with the nvidia griphic card drivers. My system is damn slow and i cant find a reason. I have removed the unwanted startup items and some auto update services like Nvidia update service....
