Hi

As the title says I can't install that update at all in my desktop, the rest of them were installed successfully. I've tried three times to end with the same we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes error and Windows Update shows it as a failed with error code 800F0922.

Untitled.png

It however was installed in my (old) netbook without any hiccups, What could it be? The only difference my desktop has Start8 while my netbook doesn't but I don't think it's the cause, but I would try to uninstall it. Thank you

PD I've read it is caused by System partition missing, my desktop doesn't have it, but my netbook neither and it installed fine.

I've tried Windows Update diagnostic which fixed something about failed updates, I've tried sfc /scannow which came clean, chkdsk found no errors, downloading and installing the update manually, freeing hard disk space, cleaning Windows update cache or something, Googling and Binging all over and only my thread pops up .

Can anyone help me?????

Unfortunately, without it providing specific error codes/descriptions, it usually is a shot-in-the dark process, as you have come to discover... may be worth looking in event log for a clue as to why this is happening.

EDIT: Just noticed the error code: May be related to secure boot...

Thank you, the error code is always 800F0922, my board is legacy BIOS so I don't have secure boot.

It's the only update which fails, I had a bunch of updates along and after it and all were successfully installed.

Maybe I will refresh or wipe everything and reinstall (a pain in the ....) , or living without this update. It sucks to be the only living thing on this universe to have this exact issue

This is the official recommendation:

Code 0x800F0922

This error might mean that your PC couldn't connect to the Windows Update servers. If you're using a VPN connection to connect to a work network, disconnect from the network and turn off the VPN software (if applicable), and then try to install the update again.

The error could also mean there isn't enough free space in the System Reserved partition. You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition

Thank you. Internet is working fine so far, no VPN, also I've tried the offline standalone installer. I don't have a System Partition as I've installed it on a 4-partition HD so Windows 8 didn't created one. Like my nebtook, but it was updated succesfully there.

I'll give up, I think I've burned all the possible fixes out there, and live without this update, hoping that MS won't prevent installing future updates, if so, then format C:

Seems that the update was pulled off, so this thread is irrelevant now :)

You didn't search very hard. It is everywhere, including on this forum.

Like you say it's now been pulled (along with three others) so consider yourself lucky some glitch in your system prevented it from being installed.

It wasn't everywhere, I found only by the long News thread here, but couldn't find any even on MS forums.

Not lucky if the new one fails too. I'll wait.

Same issue: error 800F0922

Anybody found a fix?

This is totally ridiculous: when a wanna-be fixed fix needs a re-fix, you don't need to be a genius to realize the fixing work should be restarted from scratch.

Hello, Microsoft? Could you please make sure qualified staff design a real FIX to what you consider yourself as IMPORTANT?

I thought Windows 8.1 would be a better choice than Windows 7 to evolve along technology... but I would have done otherwise if it had been called as it is actually: an Alpha Test version... not even beta, as beta versions often have less major problems than this.

Hi, the same as you I was fighting with this update nearly one week when I decided to upgrade my antyvirus (ESET) to newer version supported in Win8.x and after that the update worked like a charm. First off, I needed to uninstall my older version and as I found out, simple uninstall from Programs and features is not sufficient and I had to use dedicated application provided by ESET running in Safe Mode to uninstall my antyvir totally. Thus, please check if your antyvir is up to date and fully supported in Win 8.1.

HIH and good luck!
