In order to best provide assistance, we request users to initially run the Windows Diagnostics Tool to try and identify the issue you may be having.

Download and run WDT from the link below:

Choose windows validation from the menu bar and it will run the diagnostics test. You can then save a report as a text file containing information relating to licencing.

    Note:
If an error is detected, you can see the description by clicking/tapping on the error link.

    Remember the following:
    1. Specify from whom the Windows 8 media and what type of key was purchased?
    2. Has any piracy software been installed and removed including Watermark removers?
    3. DO NOT post the full Product Key.
    4. Please provide a short description of how and when the issue you are experiencing evolved.
    5. Sometimes the report can be very long, if there are lots of eventlog errors - so please post between <code> tags (# in the toolbar) or attach the report instead.

NOTE: The data collected with the Windows Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

Legacy scripts are still available below.

    A couple of problems...
    1) No link?
    2) Most problems aren't show by the SLUI command.

    Here's my boilerplate...
Please open an Elevated Command Prompt window (in Start, type 'Command' - a Command Prompt icon will appear, right-click on it, and select Run as Administrator)
    At the Prompt, type

    Licensingdiag.exe -report %userprofile%\desktop\report.txt -log %userprofile%\desktop\repfiles.cab

    (note the spaces!)
two files will be put on your desktop -
open the 'report.txt' file in Notepad, and copy/paste the results to your response - you can ignore the repfiles.cab file for the moment, as it's only backup data

When I ran the two files the first one didn't seem to have an error. The blue screen tells me my license expires on Jan 18th. I don't have a product key as Windows was installed on the computer already. The license text however showed this:

    Partial Product Key: 6XWKK
    License Status: Licensed
    Volume activation expiration: 18835 minute(s) (14 day(s))
    Remaining Windows rearm count: 1000
    Remaining SKU rearm count: 1001
    Trusted time: 1/4/2015 4:43:57 PM
    ...........
Message: License Activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code:
    hr=0x8007232B
    Command-line arguments:
    RuleId=dca14e37-0c5c-444f-9b35-1e2f161f5ac3;Action=AutoActivate;

    ............
there is more, I don't know is the SkuId is the product key ?Can this be fixed without a complete system restore? I bought the computer with Office 2013 installed by previous owner and I don't want to lose it

Yes you are licenced but illegally:

    Windows 8.1 Core
    M9Q9P-XXXXX-6PXPY-XXXXX-6XWKK
(Note: Key masked as it is not published by Microsoft publicly - as Core is not a VL edition.)

Volume licences are for large organisations whereby a common installation key is provided my MS per edition and that organisation has paid for a KMS server key with which to activate those installation via their network at certain intervals.

    - the activation you have uses an exploit to mimic that server activation - furthermore Windows Core edition is not distributed as a volume licence edition and can not be legally activated in this way.

Thus you need to uninstall any KMS-related software as well as the key and enter a genuine key for activation.

PS: Office 2013 is probably also activated via this exploit - so that will also be illegally activated.

Thank you for enlightening me. I recently bought this computer from an ad and see that I must have been ripped off. However the computer is still under warranty with HP and I have been in touch with their support whose recommendation is to do a complete system restore, which I assume will restore the original version of Windows that came with the computer. This computer doesn't have a CD/DVD drive and I have discs for Office 2007 which is a problem. Disappointing to have to lose Office 2013 I must say

Yup, it infuriates me as well seeing guys getting ripped off - to the point I gave away a lot of my keys in compassion, even knowing it will not solve the bigger problem, but anyhow - I hope enough people use these scripts to check the PC''s they intend to buy beforehand and get us to verify.
