    New laptop...Updates failed.

So i bought a new laptop yesterday...proceeded to install the windows 8 updates about 80, On restart then they failed now it is stuck on..Failure configuring windows updates reverting changes....since last night. Any ideas

Edit,,,Just been on the Asus site for recovery info which i'll now try.

    Method One
Using the Recovery Partition(on selected models)
    1. Press < F9 > during bootup.
    2. Press [Enter] to select Windows Setup [EMS Enabled].
    3. Select the language you want to recover and click Next.
    4. Read the ASUS Preload Wizard messages and click Next.
    5. Select a partition option and click Next. Partition options:
Recover Windows to first partition only.
This option deletes only the first partition and allows you to keep other partitions, and to create a new system partition as drive "C".
    Recover Windows to entire HD.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard disk drive and creates a new system partition as drive "C".
Recover Windows to entire HD with two partitions.
This option deletes all partitions from your hard drive and creates two new partitions "C" (25%) and "D" (75%).

    6. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.

I hope that works for you? F9 didn't get me any of those options on my ASUS K75DE that shipped with Windows 8.0. The best I could do was a Windows 8 Reset.

Install your updates in smaller batches, you may find the one that is causing the problem and temporarily hide it until a solution is found or try to install that one by itself.

I had an ASUS all-in-one which came with Windows 8. I had gotten all the way to the 8.1.1 update before I realized it had a fatal flaw and would not go to sleep the second time, but would shut down instead. That system has been replaced by a different model, but the reset to 8.0 worked fine.

I also noticed the updates were taking a very long time to complete. Since the system ships with an anti-virus, I ended up turning it off while I was installing updates. After that, the process seemed to go much quicker and did not show failed items as it had previously.

I also don't check updates that the system does not already have checked, which you may see from time to time. Some updates need prior updates to install correctly, so I don't like to rush the process.

As far as I can tell, the Reset options you list basically just allow to reset the OS partition or both the OS and Data partition. That seems fairly straight forward, unless you have added any partitions which might be removed during that process. I would think it is not referring to any hidden partitions, such as the Recovery Image partition.

I Managed to start installing them in smaller batches then it got to a point where i had to restart and it proceeded to install all of them and it failed again.

Not sure what really to tell you, but you uninstalled McAfee. In some cases, they might have left remnants on the system which could still be causing problems. I actually turned off the Firewall and Anti-virus while I was doing updates...

About the only things I can suggest is to check the update history and see if one shows as failed. Quite often, an update will fail on the first attempt but complete later.

If you feel so inclined, you could copy your WindowsUpdate.log to your desktop and copy the last few days from it and paste into a text file. Then attach, zipped if possible.

Also, in some cases, the Dism command will correct some problems with your updates and allow them to complete. This really should not be necessary of a newly Reset System, so you may give the updates some time to complete, and make sure and manually check for updates to see what it shows.

    Administrative Command prompt..

So i got a error code: 8007041D after deciding to let it do the update on it's own.

Windows update agent also failed, As it's meant to be brand new id be happy to just format it but it has the guarantee.

The update log is empty because i went into change pc settings > general > remove everything from windows and reinstalled it.
