I recently, restored my acer m5-581ptg to factory settings, since it is an older version (2012)
there were about 111 updates that needed to be installed. That all went fine and then on startup, it starts up and shows the loading sign and 'please wait'.
i tried tapping f8 and shift + f8 with no luck whatsoever, and i also disconnected from power supply and took out battery, and restarted, still starts up 'no funny noises or anything' and then just sits on 'please wait'.

any more ideas!! i've looked at other threads, but cant access safe mode or anything...

Installing that many updates at one time can take a long time to install, let it run. The problem here is that the updates may not install correctly and will revert to the prior settings which will take another long time. You would have been better off installing them lets say 5 at a time, less time and headaches.

Perhaps better to reset again to Factory settings and start over.

Very bad idea to turn off your PC while it is setting up updates... As long as the animated circle is on, Windows is fine, you just have to wait patiently. If the animation freezes though, then it's stuck and you're free to reset/shut down.

The wait game is over, shut it down.

It probably will, so try it. You may have to reinstall Windows unless someone else here has a solution.

You could try a system restore point going through Safe Mode.

7 days. Wow. Maybe I should have waited more than 50 minutes for that single update that doesn't progress. :)

Will you now try to install the rest of the updates? Perhaps you should make a restore point first just in case it may be of use...
