Solved Urgent! Win 8.1 un-activated itself!!!!
Talk about bizarre! Woke up this morning, went to check email. I don't shutdown/sleep/hibernate this box. The monitor was 'off', shuts off after 30 min. So, I give the mouse a jiggle. What comes up? Not my desktop. I've got a blue screen with the message that Windows needs to be activated.
On System Property it says "Windows is not activated" and says "Product ID: Not Available". This machine came with Windows pre-installed. Please tell me there's a way around this without having to do a reset/refresh of Windows.
Also, when I try to activate, it fails. Says can't be done at this time, try again later. Then I found this:

Lots of warnings/errors there. This one has gone nuts!
The Software Protection service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 10885 time(s).
I wiped out the Event Logs a couple weeks ago. Now I see this.
That can't be good.

Looks like a general problem occured with Service Control Manager, as opposed to the service as such ( SPP has an audit function that starts, stops and reschedules itself at regular intervals thus there will always be a bunch of entries for that)
Hopefully SFC fixed whatever caused SCM to crash... else we may have to dig a bit deeper...
Thanx for posting results.
