People!
A little background about me before I talk about this problem! I have successfully operated
a PC Repair Shop & Retail Storefront since May 5 of 1994. We are still in business to this very
day at the very same location we started! I have reloaded more PC's from
Scratch than most people have ever used a computer! All brands including Mac! Custom build's
and Linux boxes. All OS's and Emulators! Also, I am not trying to sell you a damn thing!
Obviously I have more than a little experience and knowledge to bring to the table!
Now to the point!
Most likely! There is nothing wrong with your individual computer! Brand or otherwise!
Since about 2 years ago when Windows 8 hit the market I have, Yes, reloaded a butload of
them. Microsoft in their infinite wisdom have now Quadrupled the basic recovery time, if not
more! WHAT I USED TO BE ABLE TO DO ON MOST EVERY BRAND IN 30Mins or less now takes most of
the entire work day! WTF MS! And that’s just to get it to the out of the box seal'd retail
state! That’s not removing any of the trial or crapware the OEM Manufacturers have added.
And completely before any and all updates, 8.1 Free Upgrades, other installations, etc. etc.
etc.... that we do for each and every one of our Customers.
In the first year or thereabouts I could do all the Updates without a hitch. No Errors! on any brand of PC!
NOW! For the last several months >> NEARLY EVERY SINGLE windows 8 PC of any brand, laptop,
Tower, or otherwise does this Failure!!! While restarting the PC just after the Major Batch
of Windows Updates. There is nothing wrong with these PC's. And after saying
"FAILURE CONFIGURING WINDOWS UPDATES
REVERTING CHANGES
DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER"
FOR HOURS.
All of those PC's rebooted back to a working desktop to which I then break up the updates
into smaller batches of similar updates, proceed to do all of them again methodically a
batch at a time. Rebooting in between sets. Till I get to the Windows 8.1 Free Upgrade
Continuing on to finish the pc with no further problems. All the while actually completing
every single update!
All this...If I forget to just go ahead and assume it's going to fail
and break the updates apart right from the get go! A task I never used to have to do on any Ver. of OS.
My humble opinion is that Microsoft has introduced an update or something in the update process
in the last 6 months or so that has begun causing this to happen over a wide swath of pc brands
and models "and chipsets".
In the first few months of experiencing this issue I thought surely Microsoft would realize
they have caused this huge problem and It would just go away on its own when they remove, replace, or otherwise fix said update! To Date that has not happened! I do not know which update it is. The variations of "one at a time updates" required to root out the culprit would be astronomically time consuming for me especially now that microsoft has BLOATED THE FACTORY WIPE & RECOVERY TIME to 5 or more Hours on every brand of Windows 8 PC!
.l.. Microsoft!
p.s.
Maybe Microsoft has not discovered their botch because it’s not one update but could it infact be
multiple updates that when done together produce this ever reoccurring broad scale failure during
the Large Group of Initial Updates done after reloading a pc!
O' Yea I also forgot to mention not too long ago we were brought a Brand New PC still sealed in the
box. The lady asked us to prep it for her. It too needed all of its updates. It too FAILED!
YOU TELL ME! is it our mistake or MICROSOFT's??????????????
