    There is some kind of problem with C:\Windows\System32\CodeIntegrity\bootcat.cache according to the event log. You can delete that file and it will be re-created as needed. It may not be related to the installation failure though.

    run the following from an elevated cmd prompt:

    net start "Software Protection"

    If that succeeds then run:

    licensingdiag -report licreport.txt -log liclog.cab

    Add licreport.txt, and liclog.cab files to your onedrive share.

    Finally, run this and add out.txt to your onedrive share.

    icacls c:\windows\system32\spp\*.* /T >out.txt

    @troy6,
    Done as requested, files should be visible on OneDrive.
    Regards, Leonhard.

    PS. I couldn't delete bootcat.cache in the "elevated cmd", but then i was able to by using filemanager which then asked for admin rights.

    Please execute the following from an elevated cmd prompt:

    reg save "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" winntcv
    reg save "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide" winsbs

    Then add winntcv and winsbs files to your share. Thanks.

    @troy6,
    Hello,
    During the weekend i stumbled across TWEAKING.COM.
    I made a restore point.
    I ran their (All-in-one) Windows Repair v2.7.1 (Windws 8.1 V6.3 64-bit) with
    step1,
    step3,
    step4,
    step5,
    and repairs with options 1,2,3,4,5,14,116,17,23,24,26,27,28,29 and 30.
    After that I made a restore point
    Installed KB29565575 (reboot) and KB2955164 (reboot)
    I could then only use IE11 using HTTPS sites, like MS live.com but leaving that t.nl.msn.com was not reachable.
    It seems that i lost some Verisign certificates...
    I'm now exploring a solution on forum8

    @troy6,
    The error presented within IE11 "res://ieframe.dll/acr_error.htm#,about:Tabs"

    The ie11 issue seems to exist when you run the 64-bit enhanced security setting under the tools/advanced tap.
    Using the the option reset of advanced options all sites are reachable.
    It seems to me that using the 64-bit security setting will direct you to the certificates, and there 2 certificates are missing...
    This is not my desired state, but i have to do with it and be extra carefull where i "put my feet in the internet world."

    If you wish i could provide you with the "new" reg-keys 'current-version' and 'sidebyside'.

    You could close this thread as solved. (I will look at your answer)

    I don't know how i can show my gratitude other then THANKS

    regards, Leonhard.

    Thanks for pointing out that tweaking.com repair utility. I'll have to investigate what it does more, but it looks like it makes your computer less secure, by blindly granting "Everyone" full access to all files and registry entries. It would be nice to know which of the changes it made solved the problem... Oh well, at least updates are working again.

    @troy6,

    It may be that what you said about security settings,
    but it also detected that the "Restore point facility" which one can use in windows 8.1 is NOT full proof.
    It will try to regenerate the "missing files", and has its own "restore point facility" included in the package. (i didn't use that yet).

    regards,
    Leonhard.
