May 13 Update - brand new Laptop stalls on Welcome Screen after Update Restart and Login...
I'm have to post this via my W7 laptop, because my new HP Pavilion TS 15 is stalled on the W8 Welcome Page.
The Microsoft 13 May Update seemed to go well, and the Laptop restarted to the login screen after the updates, with relative ease.
However, after I had entered my login details, the screen is stalled on the W8 Welcome Screen... with the small polling circle doing it's thing, and the Laptop nothing else.
There are no other warnings or otherwise on screen.
After 45 minutes, I did attempt a 'hard' shut down by using the Power button, then waiting a minute before trying to do a 'hard' Power On restart..... even that has failed, as the Laptop opens immediately on the 'Welcome Screen' ... as if it hasn't logged out..
Additional - Progress - Solved
OK ... so I waited another half-hour, and thinking about the above behaviour, figured that if the first restart result was to open again on the 'Welcome Screen', that suggested the Laptop did not in fact shut down completely at that stage.
So this time I held the Power down firmly for about 10 seconds in total, then walked away from it for a couple of minutes.
Then did the same to Power On the Laptop. After a fraction longer than 'normal' delay, the Login Screen appeared, and after login - the Welcome Screen, followed quickly by W8 Start Screen - back in business.
Regardless, I'd be interested to know where I can find a log that advises the problem just had.
