    Replacing Win8 with Win7

I apologize if this thread is misplaced.

    I have a Lenovo K450 with Win8 pre-installed.

I have a new copy of Win7 I purchased from Microsoft a few years back that I would like to install, but my PC seems to be locked to Win8.

I can disable the secure boot in BIOS, and install WIN7, but windows update will not function with secure boot disabled.

Can I circumvent this entirely by replacing the motherboard?

    Thank You!

I'm not sue how you came to that conclusion but since your k450 does show Win 7 drivers available, a clean install of Win 7 should be quite easy with a retail disc.

Any attempts to do such a thing would be extremely costly and unwarranted IMHO. My advice would be to try and upgrade to Windows 8.1 (free via Windows Store) and tolerate the small learning curve that would be associated with the upgrade.

However, if you decide to revert to Windows 7, I see no issues in doing so (as previously stated). Good luck.

Another alternative for the OP, prehaps try dual booting both.

    Hi there
How does Windows update (Win 7) NOT work just because you have disabled secure boot. UEFI and PROTECTED BOOT are NOT THE SAME THINGS although you need UEFI in order to use protected boot.

Convert the disk from GPT to MBR and the whole kybosh will work just as it did BEFORE the whole UEFI stuff was ever heard of.

I don't see any reason why you should abandon though UEFI - windows 7 update should still work. However no problem in killing off UEFI either -- you'll just have to tinker around with BIOS settings and ensure you install the NON UEFI mode of W7.

    Cheers
