I updated Win 7 Pro X64 to Win 8.
After applying all updates, I updated Win 8 Pro X64 to Windows 8.1.

When I look in the store now I don't see Update 1 nor do I see it in Windows Update.

I think I got update 1 when I did the 8.1 update but how do I tell for sure?

On the metro desktop, top right I have my account name, a power and a search icon.
I don't know if they are part of 8.1 or 8.1 update 1.

Launch one of those full screen apps. Then kick the cursor into the top of the screen. If the red X appears on the top right, then you are in 8.1.1.

Also, behind the tiles of the start screen, you should see your desktop picture - unless you finagled that already in 8.1.

Hmm, you are a tough customer with all those tweaks, LOL. I always run my systems vanilla. Avoids confusion.

Go to start screen, if there is the search icon in the upper right and the power button in the upper right, you have update 1 for 8.1.

(I tested this today)

How to install Windows 8 and then upgrade Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Update?

1. Install Windows 8.

2. You do not need to install all updates from Windows Update. You only need install KB2871389 update. Download and install KB2871389 update from link or from Windows Update.

Update is available that prepares Windows 8 and Windows RT-based computers for the update to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT

3. Install Windows 8.1 from Store.

4. You now have Windows 8.1 Update installed (see screenshots below).
