Solved Windows 8.1 Update - Lost Windows Store and Windows Update

Hi All

Newbie to the forum but not windows.

History: Went to install Windows 8.1 update last night. I first installed 8 updates (half of which were Office based) and then rebooted. I then ran the 8.1 update on its own - downloaded and installed without a hitch. Rebooted and all was well, or so I thought. This morning I tried to download some app from the Windows Store, it failed to load with a 0X80072F8F error (see below). I also tried Windows Update only to find that I was getting an error there as well, the same one! So, I decided to roll back my PC to a backup image taken on Monday and go through the whole process once again but first checked that I could access both the Store and Update, both were OK. I installed the 8 or so updates first, rebooted and checked access to the Store and Update again, both were OK. I then downloaded and installed the 8.1 update, rebooted and guess what, lost access to the Store and Update. I downloaded and ran the Windows Update diagnostic tool, that found some errors but was unable to fix them all (see below).

Anyone any ideas?

Regards.

Dave

OK, ran DISM, no faults found. So now over to option 2 (Repair Install of Windows). Bit of an issue here as I installed Windows 8 from an ISO file and then upgraded to 8.1, looks like I'll have to hunt around to find either an 8.1 DVD or ISO file - any ideas?

I followed the repair install instructions posted on this site and it worked pretty well. Still awaiting updates. I too only had an 8 ISO but had the 8.1 key.

Ok, Solved. Before embarking on the re-install of Windows 8.1 I followed a You Tube video of someone with a similar problem in Windows 7. One of the options was to download the Windows Repair (All in One) tool from Tweaking.com and then go to the start repairs tab and I selected all the options and let it run for half an hour, it rebooted the PC and all was fixed.

Thanks for your help and support.
