I now have the following on the bottom right corner of my screen:

Win 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Build 9600

All my disks are valid purchases with keys. Here is what I did.

I cloned/replaced my OS from a Toshiba 64gb SSD to a newer Samsung 250gb SSD using Samsung's Data Migrator. Went off w/out a hitch. The laptop system info says Win 8.1 not activated. WTH? :sarc:
I have had no problems with my upgrade since overcoming all the black screens of death from upgrading from Win 7 Home premium. That is another tale...

Anyone else have this problem?
How do I get rid of the watermark and why is my valid copy of Win 8 saying not activated?

I purchased the disk back in Nov when they were on sale. I still have 2 in the blue folders to use but I don't think I will be using them given all the headaches this one upgrade caused.

Any help will be greatly appreciated,
Jeff

I'm guessing your OS is still registered with MS as active from the old SSD.
Is there a way you could try to extract your key from the old SSD and then install it on the new one?

Thanks for all the replies-learned quite a bit just by investigating the possible solutions.

Using the activate by phone feature, thankfully, did the trick. :) I was given a new code but that was much easier than some of the options out there.

Thanks again,
Jeff

You're most welcome Jeff. Glad we could help. :)

Your product key number will still be the same. The confirmation ID number you got was just to activate with your product key.
