Hello there forumistas,I am using disk cleanup utility, checking "Windows update cleanup" and click ok,pretty straightforward process, but them MB's keep returning,Tried deleting contents of Windows-software distribution-downloads,did not help free up space. Its not a matter of disk space, but of the OS's "behaviour",not performing a simple task like cleanup.I would also need some guidance, deleting "System queued Windows Error Reporting".Thanks in advance for any hints or clues.

This is a guess.

After running disk cleanup did you restart the computer & run cleanup again ?
After googling it, the restarting seemed needed.

I've had the same problem before.
I'm running cleanup right now.
I'll post the results when it finishes.

That batch file only deletes contents of softwaredistribution/downloads. What do you have in it?

You'll not save a lot of space anyway as (all being well) files older than 10 days are deleted anyway. Is your complaint that disk cleanup doesn't reduce space enough or is it the downloads folder in particular?

If you really want to "clean house" then do the following:

Run this command and see all that you can delete:
cleanmgr /sageset:65535

If you can't wait for the 30 day scheduled MS cleanup, run the following command:
DISM.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Read more here: How to Reduce the Size of Your WinSXS Folder on Windows 7 or 8

Download and Run Wise Disk Cleaner Portable:
WiseCleaner Downloads - Download Free Registry Cleaner, Download Free Disk Cleaner, Download Wise Care 365
Run the common and advanced cleanup at default values. See what it finds.

Use all 3 of the above at your own discretion.

Just a thought:
Could 'Shadow Copies' be holding some of those files 'hostage'?

Good thinking, but doesnt apply,no shadow copies here, I do not use system restoration,Macrium takes care of that!

I have been running the sageset and clear event commands since the Seven era, powerful and useful cmd's but do not help me with this one.Due to time difference, just woke up and will give them other two options a chance, later in the "Greek" evening.I still have to go to work, thank God!

Did get all three of those "Wise Downloads" cleaners, installed (watch it,lots of bloatware),ran common and advanced cleaning,as well slimming option, did find among other small remnants the usual 16MB fonts cache but thats it.The update cache (80MB) was still present plus the thumbnail cache (7MB) was not deleted. The one called Registry cleaner claimed to fix various registry issues, the heck with it.Care 365 looks promising,I gave up on those optimizers a long time ago.
Issue persists and I am saying it again, its not about the space consumed, but a simple cleanup task not performed.

Hi proudtobegreek,

First off, I can tell you first hand that Wise Disk Cleaner contains '0" bloatware, again "0" bloatware. I do beta testing for that product and if I found any evidence of that, I would have reported it as such. Now, they may recommend you download a different Wise product and/or ask if you want their newsletter but that is not bloatware. Also, your attempt at using some of their other products was not recommended by me so I assume that decision was based on your own curiosity. With that said, I will now test that dism command on my own pc and update this thread with my results. I'll be back shortly.

All right, maybe "bloatware" wasnt the right term to use, excuse me.I read "use all 3 of the above" and thought you were referring to the three products mentioned in the link, well no,you ment all three actions, thats ok,a little review never hurt anyone!
The command doesnt complete, simple as that,in no matter am I trying to proove you or any else wrong, just providing "my" outcome.
MY regards!
