    Windows Update Errors: 800F0922, 80071A91

Hi everybody, hopefully someone can help me out with these problems.

About a week a go I had to refresh my computer and had to therefore revert back to Win 8 and re-install updates. However, I now have 81 important updates that refuse to be installed and getting the errors 800F0922 and 80071A91 as you can see from below:

I have tried some suggestions that I've found around the web, such as using the Action Center Troubleshooter, Windows Update Diagnostic, SFC and DISM with the following effect:

However, the problem still persists. I also went through and tried to install every update individually, but no luck there either.

All of these updates are also ones that require a restart, I have managed to successfully install a couple that did not need a restart.

If any one could help out with this problem it would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

    Hello

    Please refer to this tutorial:

    hope this helps.

    Try:
    1. Delete everything under C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. This folder contains all the windows updates downloaded and if they are corrupted, they will cause Windows Updates to fail.
    2. Try Windows Updates again.

After I deleted the content of the Downloads folder and tried to install the updates again rather than the 800F0922 and 80071A91 errors, I got 80070003 and 80246007 errors instead, with all of the updates failing to install.

Trying it once again after that the errors were this time 80070003, 800F0922 and 80071A91.

At least we're making some kind of progress.

    can you try,

    Disabling secure boot

Try install windows updates again. If you have KB2871690 specifically - try it manually.

    Then enable secure boot again.

    Cheers,
    Harry

Still no luck after trying the secure boot.

Another weird thing that happens is that even after the updates fail I still get to option to "Update and restart" Windows. The system then goes through the normal actions off supposedly installing the updates while restarting. When I then open Windows Update again the installed updates are gone until I click on the Check for Updates and they re-appear once again.

Really appreciate all the help offered so far, hopefully we can figure this thing out.

I did this... Is it safe to delete files Under - Microsoft Community

Essentially you stop the update service, rename softwaredistribution folder and then restart the update service.

You lose your previous update history but it worked for me. It is what TopGun said above but with net stop wuauserv first.

If the update works then you can delete the renamed folder.

Well you could try renaming/deleting the whole c:\softwaredistibution folder I suppose and see if that helps.

Last time I had this issue (at 8 not 8.1 and with Office updates rather than Windows) I gave up and re-installed. Not a helpful answer I'm afraid. Perhaps someone else could help.
