Running 8.1 and noticed that my Windows Update wasn't downloading files. Ran SFC /SCANNOW

C:\Users\XXXXX>SFC /SCANNOW

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Looking at my CBS.log. I find the following:

I dont know what "DIRSD OWNER WARNING" means (Which appears hundreds of times)
and: I dont know what "Ignoring duplicate ownership for directory" (Which appears hundreds of times)

I have no clue what all this means...and I apologize if it appears like a bunch of garbage. I am totally clueless and a pure Amateur at this. I dont know how to repair and fix the corrupt or missing files. I need help badly, but please remember that I am a rookie. Use terms and language a 5 year old could understand and I might have a chance!
;)

Thanks in advance!
Scott

Dism hangs on 20% for a long time & suddenly finishes.

Running dism & then sfc might take an hour or so.

It takes a while to show anything.
Just wait for 20% to appear.

You got the sfc message because dism was already running.

Once you start the dism command it takes its' own good time to display the 20% complete message.
After a long time it will suddenly reach 100% complete & say the store corruption was repaired.

Then close the command window & open another administrator command prompt & run sfc /scannow.

The more corruption you have, the longer dism takes to fix things.

I'll be here till we sort this out. :)

EDIT-- Sometimes I have to wait 15 minutes or more before it shows a 20% complete.

Still nothing! Meaning no %...musta been in bad shape. Could something be "Holding it up"? Norton, a firewall...

Ill keep ya posted!!

Scott

You could close the prompt & try it again if it soon doesn't show something.
I would give it half an hour.

Your computer must really have corruptions. :(

No, nothing will hold it up.

Be patient.
Computers can bug the hell out of you sometimes.

Is there a program that I can use to keep it cleaner? I have Glarysoft on here, but havent used it much or lately. Also, I think that I should probably stick with Defender as antivirus and delete Norton. I need some utility to keep it clean and running smoothly, a good cleaning out now and then...just so many out there, I dont know which is best, if any. Or is there a CMD that I can run that will clean it out and running fast?

Being patient!

I got rid of Norton.
Didn't like it.

I use CCleaner:

Download CCleaner 4.10.4570 - FileHippo.com

It has various options.
A lot of people use it.
I like it.
