Activating Windows 8

I got my Samsung Series 9 repaired and, as a result of some component changes, Windows 8 is no longer activated. Can I use a copy of Windows 8 Pro (which is intended to allow Windows 7, Vista and XP users to upgrade to Windows 8) to activate Windows 8? In other words, will the product key of an upgrade package allow me activate Windows 8, despite it not being an upgrade (my computer came with Windows 8 pre-installed).

In this case your first point of contact should be Samsung Support, if you contact them and explain the situation they should organise activation of the pre-installed OS. Microsoft may be an option though pre-installed OS is officially the responsibility of the OEM.

It may be possible to "upgrade" using a retail copy of pro, but then of course you would lose the use of the pre-installed copy that you have already paid for

Why you want waste a second licence when your computer came with preinstalled Windows 8 ? If you would activate it online the licence server would say: "Cannot be activated: This licence is used on an other Computer". So use phone activation to reactivate your preinstalled licence. In a command prompt with admin rights use this for phone activation:
