Step 1) Open Windows Explorer > locate C:\Windows\Logs\CBS > delete all contents in the CBS folder.

Step 2) Locate C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download > delete all contents in the Download folder.

Step 3) Locate C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs > delete all contents in the Logs folder.

Step 4) Locate C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\DataStore.ebd > delete the file.

Step 5) Delete the Logs folder on the Desktop.

    Step 6) Press + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) >
    Type: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth > Restart

    Step 7) Press + X > select Command Prompt (Admin) > Type: SFC /scannow

Step 8) Download Collect.bat > Right click & Run as Administrator.

Please attach all logs to your next post.

Cannot delete cbs.log its used by some tiworker.exe application, same with edb.log in DataStore\logs which is used by "Information about application" process, exactly same problem with datastore.ebd.

    dism output:

    Error: 0x800f0906

The source files could not be downloaded.
Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files that are required t
o restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see
    Configure a Windows Repair Source.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Also, I cannot upload cbs.log from the desktop logs its 289mb but all others went fine this time.

Looking through the Windows Update log I can see something went wrong on the 18th. Use System Restore to restore the system back to the 17th. Then try to run Windows Update again.

    System Restore:

Press + X > select System > click System Protection > click System Restore > Click Choose a different restore point > choose a restore point on 1/17/2014 > click next.

It seems I have only one restore point and its from today. To be honest, I have these update issues for quite some time and I believe it was before 17th. I'm kind of starting to be affraid reinstallation of OS is the only way out of this. Although it wouldn't be a big deal for me if I wouldn't lose the data or got them moved to windows.old folder.

Here are some options for you.

Refresh your PC, this will preserve all of your data.

    Refresh Windows 8

Reset you PC, this will reinstall Windows & remove all data.

    Reset Windows 8

Alright, reinstalled and now everything works fine, I finally managed to even get all the updates and even upgraded to Windows 8.1 and it was worth it after all . It was probably some malware thing somehow blocking the Windows update.

I can recommend anybody watching this thread and having similar issues to go through those pages. There are some nice tips that are worth learning/trying.
